ADDRESSING THE ISSUE
There exists a huge digital divide among people from different economic, social and racial class. This divide has proven to be a disadvantage for those who don’t have access to the new and improving technology. However, we are aware of this divide in this sector and have identified its existence in our lives. The concerned authorities are taking measures to bridge the gap and to help reduce the divide, but the digital divide in the case of the senior citizens has still not caught our attention. An issue so important has been overlooked and there is need for it to get its due attention. There is a growing generational gap with the improvement in technology and the elderly are feeling even more cut off and lonely. Although our grand parents might seem to be resistant to change, however to our surprise it’s seen that they actually want to learn and know more. Therefore there is a need to help the elderly adapt to the new gadgets and technology by arranging for tutorial classes to help them learn how to use and access the technology, also there is a need to make affordable user friendly gadgets that are self explanatory in their usage. More and more steps like these need to be taken to empower the elderly by helping them come up to speed with the current generation and bridge the growing generational gap. |
